Gynecological examination is a must if painkillers are not enough!

Menstrual pain is a severe pain that can hit cramps, back and groin, and sometimes legs. The uterus is contracted a little during the menstrual period in order not to overdose the menstruation and to limit blood loss. However, in some women, the severity of these contractions is really high.

Substances that provide contractions are substances that are secreted locally in the uterus. It is thought that the event that causes pain is excessive secretion of this substance or a hypersensitivity response to pain in women.

In the treatment, pain relievers are used to prevent the formation of these substances. If menstrual pain can be controlled by painkillers and no other gynecological symptom is present, gynecological examination is not necessary.

However, if the menstrual pain is very severe and has started to affect general well-being, cannot be controlled by ordinary painkillers or causes loss of labor force, then the gynecological evaluation should be done and the treatment should be applied.

The purpose of gynecological examination is to determine whether menstrual pain occurs due to a different and important reason. In general, secondary (secondary dysmenorrhea) menstrual pain is seen in women of childbearing age.

Causes of Pains:

  • Endometriosis (the inner layer of the uterus is located on the outer surface of the uterus or in a non-uterine area)
  • Stenosis in the cervix
  • Uterine tumors
  • The uterus is in different positions (especially if it is pointed towards the back)
  • Inflammatory diseases of the uterus and adjacent organs
  • Psychological reasons

Birth Control Pills Can Prevent Pillars!

There is a close relationship between menstruation and ovulation. In cases that do not respond to painkillers, the removal of ovulation with birth control pills can also be a problem for menstruation.

Women who do not benefit from this treatment need further examination. For this purpose, the abdominal cavity is examined by the method called laparoscopy. In this examination, endometriosis is usually detected and treatment is different.

Occasional inflammations or adhesions due to operations may also be a cause of pain. If such conditions are detected, laparoscopy is immediately performed by the surgeon.
